Step 1: Simplify the left hand side and the right hand side. So you will distribute the 4 then the 8 and then add the like terms. Do the same to the right hand side.
Step 2: Isolate the k's to one side and put the numbers on the other.  
If you divide or multiply by a negative number you must remember to flip the sign.
