what is surface energy?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

think of surface of liq being stretched up llike a stretched plastic..to stretch it more i.e to increase surface area you need to do work...this work is said to be stored as surface energy...hence every stretched surface is associated with the energy required to create it out of indivisual liq molecules, called surface energy..

I have a big but beautiful explanation for surface energy. Here goes.....

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

is this the same as surface tension ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the energy at the surface

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@UnkleRhaukus: every energy is associated to work done against some force..surface energy is in same way related to surface tension..
