if you go to chicago and use 2/5 of a gallon tank of gas, how many gallons did you use? the answer to that question was 0.4 . this was an 80-mile trip, how many tanks would you use to travel 500 miles?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you travel 80 miles on .4 gallons of gas then you travel 500 miles using \[500\div80=6.25\] so the trip is 6.25 times as long as the chicago trip. To get the total amount of gas\[6.25*.4=2.5\]This means you are getting 200 miles to the gallon. The trip of 500 miles took 2.5 gallons in your highly efficient automobile.
