What is the net force of a suspended object?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just beginning physics....so answers need to be simple please!

OpenStudy (experimentx):

how is it suspended??

Well, if it's suspended, then one would assume it's suspended in a gravity field. In this case the force it exerts on the thing it's suspended on (rope?) is its weight.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's a banana suspended by a piece of string attached to a spring scale

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just need to understand the net force of the banana.....I've already calculated the weight....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@experimentX is correct, both forces have to be equal, so that the banana doesn't accelerate.
