hero (hero):

DoomDude, giving answers only is against Open Study Code of Conduct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

realy?

hero (hero):

Surprisingly, yes. And you have already been reported.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok then... sorry for trying to help someone

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow.. these new rules are stupid

hero (hero):

How did you possibly help them? They still don't know how to factor it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

agreed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I simply do not have the time, i am trying to do my physics and help him at the same time!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, if you feel the need report me

hero (hero):

If you only have time to give answers rather than help someone, then open study is not the place for you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you mean to tell me... that he would rather wait for someone else to come allong and explain each one (and he has allot of questions) than to just be told the answer?

hero (hero):

If the poster's intent is to get answers only, then that isn't what open study is about. If this site was about giving answers only, then would have named it open answers, not open study.

hero (hero):

You might want to take a look at this: http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I will take the punishment for my actions, but let it be known I do not believe I have done any harm to anyone or anything..

hero (hero):

@DoomDude, don't let me or anyone else catch you giving answers again.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would like to talk to a moderator about it in that case.

hero (hero):

Don't worry. You will soon.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok then, i will be waiting

hero (hero):

I see that you have deleted the obvious answer you posted originally. But don't worry, the mods now how to access such information even if it is deleted.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know they can, I am aware of that, I simply was deleting it so that he could not see the answer (as you so delightfully) pointed out there, so if me trying to fix that is a crime, BAN ME NOW!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

message me when you get a hold of a moderator please...

myininaya (myininaya):

@DoomDude yeah, unfortunately giving just answers doesn't really help the "asker" to learn. Also the "asker" shouldn't just be looking for answers. He should be looking to learn. It is both person's job to engage in the learning process. Openstudy is all about helping each other learn.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The person knows how to do the problems though, he only wanted the answer!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and I have seen countless people answer them with only an answer..

myininaya (myininaya):

That is not what OpenStudy is for though.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, should I make him wait for me to finish wasting my time explaining it until i get to the answer...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

explanation is redundant at that point

OpenStudy (anonymous):

should I tell him to leave OS because he knows how to do them and only wants the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What should I do in a situation like that?

myininaya (myininaya):

Well if he is just looking for answers report him and help someone else.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, report him, and in doing that you moderators will tell him to only ask questions he is stuck on?

hero (hero):

If the original poster already knows the answer, allow him to post the answer he came up with, then you can verify that the answer he posted was correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*sigh* I know it is a rule, and it is one I will follow from now on, but honestly it seems like one of the stupidest ones you guys have in my opinion...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, will do

myininaya (myininaya):

You can give your opinion in the feedback group about it. I'm sure admins will be willing to listen to your opinion(s). Thanks.

Hey @DoomDude - I understand where you're coming from, and I do believe you have the right intentions at heart. And you bring up a lot of good points. Situations like this are very difficult to gauge, and are usually on a case-by-case basis. Also, I can assure you that we as moderators do not make snap judgements in situations like this. As to your point, I absolutely understand, and we're here to help. OpenStudy is here to provide an environment where a person after asking their question, should be able to at least attempt to answer the next question on their own. Of course, there are exceptions such as when someone knows the answer already and is simply verifying their method. A crucial point here is judging the motivations of the asker - if they are posting multiple questions (like from an assignment) - I would request that you either communicate the purpose of OpenStudy to them, message myself or another moderator, or simply Report Abuse. Your time and efforts on OpenStudy ARE appreciated @DoomDude - hence I don't want to see those efforts wasted on someone who does not appreciate them. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions, thank you!
