create your own prime trinomial in the form ax^2+bx+c. how do you know its prime?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

a prime trinomial?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

ill have to look that up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok.

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

ah - thats a trinomial that cannot be factored one would be x^2 + 2x - 7 - that cannot be written as (x + a)(x + b) where a and b are integers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh,,,ok . thanks alot!!!

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

in order to factor x^2 + cx + d a*b must equal d and a + d must = c where c and d are integers this is not possible in the case x^2 + 2x - 7

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

you're welcome
