How many solutions are there for the equation? x2 + 16 = 8x 2 1 0

OpenStudy (ash2326):

\[x^2+16x=8x\] It's a quadratic The highest power of x here in the equation is 2 so it has 2 soultions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 in the real numbers. That's a repeated solution x = 4.

@Ash I have no idea what that mant.. but thanks.

OpenStudy (ash2326):

@bmp is right as it's repeated roots so it'll have only one solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x = 8/3

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

in such questions always simply check the Discriminant 'D' \[D = b^2 - 4ac\] where a, b, and c can be found out by comparing your quadratic with the std. equation, \[ax^2 + bx +c\] Now, if D>0 --> means two real roots if D=0 --> repeated roots, or one real root. if D<0 -->No real roots. So do the same for the question above.
