Factor x^2+6x-50

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

first step is to break down the middle term into two addends..but notice how the first and last terms are positive and negative respectively. therefore, your addends must be positive and negative as well? now..what two addends when added will result to 6x and be a factor of the first term and the last term? (if you do not understand the explanation say so)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would it been in (x-_)(x+_) form?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

in the end yes..but in that step no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that equation cannot be factorized completely with those two brackets like that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats what i thought!

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

hmm good point..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep, so u'll have to find an alternative method. I think u would use the Irreducible factorization method or something but I have not learnt it, so I will leave it to @Igbasallote
