How does rough ER differ from smooth ER?

ER - Membrane system which makes a series of flattened sacks, in the cytoplasm of the eukaryotic cell, important for biosynthesis, processing and transporting of lipids.
Now, RER has its membrane full of adhered ribosomes, which gives it a rugous aspect, and that states a difference from the SER.
SER perfoms function of lipid synthesis, and RER - protein synthesis.
