What is the slope of the line between the points (–3, 5) and (5, 1)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(1-5)/(5+3)= -1/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

rise/run (y2-y1)/(x2-x1) in general

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

thee gradient formula is \[m = (y _{2} -y _{1})/(x _{2} - x _{?})\] you need to select a 1 point and a 2 point... let (-3, 5) be the 1 point and (5, 1) the 2 point

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh very easy . . . Like this . . . \[m=(y _{2}-y _{1})/(x _{2}-x _{1})=(1-5)/(5-(-3))=-4/8=-1/2\]
