Find the lowest common denominator that would eliminate the fractions in this equation. 1/2y-2/3=7/8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

24

Thanks:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not a problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that a 2y in the denominator of the first fraction? if it is, then it's 24y.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

only if all have it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought the question was asking what is the expression needed to clear those fractions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lowest common denominator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there lowest common denominator is 24y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a lot of people don't specify the groupings and assume that the y is in the denominator. But if we were to just use order of operations(which i think should be used everytime) then you would be correct.... that is, the "y" is not in the denominator. that is why i asked if the y is in the denominator.. sorry for the confusion.
