First equation, upon solving for y, gives y = 6x + 12. Replace y in the second equation with 6x+12.

OpenStudy (rulnick):

... get x-(6x+12) = -2. So -5x -12 = -2. Which means -5x = 10. Solve this for x and you're just about done.
