I'm writing a comic book, how do I insert the hardships of "cancer" into the plot? Both the emotional and physical stress. (It's a nonsensical, cartoonic style of writing, similar to "Adventure Time" but I wanted to hide in a deeper meaning)
My suggestion is have one of the more likable characters a smoker. Then have a side plot reflect how someone close to him died from cancer. Even how the smoking prompts comments from others. Potential relationships, friends, and family could all variously comment on it in a negative fashion. This would need to be aligned to their specific personality from preachy to joking. Perhaps a running schtick about the various downsides. I think this would enable it to not be preachy since its not a constant theme. Something with this might actually allow it to not come across as a PSA.
Dude that's genius
