OpenStudy (dream95):

what is the advantage and disadvantage of using patient's own artery than an artery transported from another???

OpenStudy (dream95):

i mean from anther person

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well the main issue i believe is a transfusion reaction due to RBCs of differing blood type (ABO/Rhesus/Kells etc) we may see host vs graft syndrome from the donor while a persons own artery will have the best results with acclimatizing to the new location as it is the same unlike the donor which is hard to get a perfect match. Also surgery & anesthetic carries dangers with it to which the donor would be subject too, it is an inherit risk while if its a self artery for the operation the patient will have to the 'knocked out' regardless

OpenStudy (dream95):

thanks

No prob, there may be other reasons but from what i know these seem most likely.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is immune rejection of the transplanted artery tissue (not blood cells, which can be washed out). Only tissue donors who have the same MHC type will not be rejected.

didnt even occur to me there jc7, well done, i did read one case, ill try find it, where cells were not washed out correctly, caused a transfusion reaction in the patient through rhesus mismatch i think (this was a long time ago)
