How do Newton's 3 laws apply to an egg drop?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1st Law - It will remain at rest as you hold it before you drop it. 2nd - The net force would not be 0 when you drop it so it will accelerate down because of gravity. 3rd - There will be a simultaneous reaction but in the opposite direction so when the egg lands, an upward force will act on it.

you know newton's three laws right??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah.....just kinda confused.

OpenStudy (experimentx):

well how can you apply newton's first law??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In an egg drop, the container will remain at rest as a person holds it before dropping it. When the object is dropped, the unbalanced force of gravity acts on the container and causes it to accelerate, instead of moving at a constant velocity.

OpenStudy (experimentx):

No ... not really. what does newton's first law say??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@algebraprobs the egg will drop at constant acceleration and a changing velocity

OpenStudy (experimentx):

well that's second law //

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Algebra, when the egg reaches the ground then the third law can aply
