Solve -3x + 6 < 9.

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

-3x < 9 - 6 -3x < 3 0 < 3x + 3 3x + 3 > 0 3x > -3 x >-3/3 x > -1

hero (hero):

-3x + 6 < 9 -3x < 9 - 6 -3x < 3 -3 < 3x -3/3 < x -1 < x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

move 6 to the right hand side (RHS) by subtracting (-) 6 from both sides. You will get -3x < 9-6. That is the same as -3x < 3. divide both sides by 3 to get -x < 1. since you want to solve for x multiply by -1 both sides so that you get x < -1. In words: variable x is always less than value -1. Hope that helped :)

@Jire, is x really less than -1?
