With animals if the food chain is disrupted such as if the rats and mice were to die, then that might cause the death of many barn owls seeing as that is their primary diet. The same could happen to plants such as if the Amazon river was to dry up, ALL life around the river would either die or have to find a new home, (and in most cases thy are not adapted for any of the terrain near the amazon seeing as it is in the middle of Africa).
