A group of students performing an experiment collect Euglena samples from a pond and keep them in darkness in a vessel containing pond water. Which would be the conclusion for this experiment?

They would most likely die out because organisms need sunlight to live.

@laurenrichelle is sort of correct - Euglena *is* photosynthetic, so without light, it should die... however, it is not *exclusively* photosynthetic, so it can survive short periods without light. It would depend on how long it went without light and if there were enough other things for it to phagocytize(sp?) in the pond water. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euglena
