The Principle of Faunal Succession states that if we can estimate the age of the fossils, we can find the absolute age of a fossil. assume that the rock layer formed at the same time the fossil formed. older fossils will be found below younger fossils. use extinct animals to guide the Principle of Faunal Succession.

well scientists use different methods such as carbon dating, and other methods as well. But when they find the age of fossils they can also comfigure how old the rocks around the fossils by the same methods.
