The formula for a geometric sequence is an=1000(0.5)^n-1. What is the third term of the sequence?

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

hmm simple enough. put in n=3 in the equation for the nth term, since we need to find the '3rd' term. calculate and enjoy!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

n indicates which term it is. So you replace n with whatever term you want...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know how to calculate that though.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Actually is that sequence defined recursively? Do you mean that (n-1) should be all together in brackets?
