Describe whether the ordered pair (-5,2) is a solution of the system 3y=-2x-4 and 5y=3x+20. Show your work.

In order for an ordered pair to be a solution of a system it has to satisfy the system. That is you have to plug in x=-5, 2 in the first equation and see if it yields a true statement and likewise to the equation 5y=3x+20.

3(2)=-2(-5)-4 which is true because the left hand side is 6 and the right hand side yields 6. Check the second equation :-) if it satisfies the second equation too (the ordered pair (-5,2) MUST satisfy both equations not just one).
