The endocrine system is the body's long distance signalling system - hormones which are made by one tissue are released into the blood stream and stimulate / coordinate responses of other tissues and organ systems. Which is how it regulates the body's activity.

There are a few organs which play a big role in the exocrine system like the pancreas, thyroid gland, adrenal glands, etc - these organs secrete a lot of hormones or very important ones. But most tissues either produce hormones or are stimulated by them.
