Joy is training for a triathlon. She runs a distance of 2x miles, cycles a distance of (x2 + 7) miles, and swims a distance of (x - 2) miles. Which simplified expression is equivalent to the total distance, in miles, Joy covers? x2 + 3x + 5 x2 + 3x + 9 3x2 + 5 3x2 + 9 Don't know what the equation is supposed to be.

Just add together the three expressions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in the order there in???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x2 + 7)+(x - 2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and 2x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Get it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but where do i put 2x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can add the individual bits together like numbers. So you have an x worth of swimming and 2x of running -> 3x Do you see?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not very good at math so no i dont get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK, lets pretend that x is an apple so now x (one apple) and 2x (two apples) gives 3 apples (3x) Apart from that, you have a +7 of cycling and a -2 of swimming so 7-2 is 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So at the end, after you added everything up you have x^2 and 3x and 5 (the first of your choices)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oooooooohhhhhh!!!!! wow that wasnt that hard to do i guess i just had to think harder thank you very much you were a big help!!!!

u r welcome
