If Mercedes made 35 minutes of local calls and 52 minutes of long-distance calls, what was paying per minute for each type of call?

Let x = cost per minute of a local call
Then x+.05= cost per minute of a long-distance call
35x = cost of her local calls
52(x+.05)=cost of long distance calls
Assuming that she used the card up with these calls we can write that 35x + 52(x+.05)=20
Solve that for x and you will have the per minute cost of a local call.
