I need some help please. HOw to solve this word problem? Mercedes had a calling card worth $20. On this card, long-distance calls cost 0.05 more per minute then local calls. If Mercedes made 35 minutes of local calls and 52 minutes of long-distance calls, what was paying per minute for each type of call?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Let x = cost per minute of a local call Then x+.05= cost per minute of a long-distance call 35x = cost of her local calls 52(x+.05)=cost of long distance calls Assuming that she used the card up with these calls we can write that 35x + 52(x+.05)=20 Solve that for x and you will have the per minute cost of a local call.
