what is shanon diversity index? what does the change in it's value mean?
Well this is one of those indices for measure diversity, that is it takes into account both evenness and richness of species (well, and abundance). A greater evenness and richness will increase the value of this diversity index, so the higher the value the more diverse. The best websites I can find on this are: http://www.wcsmalaysia.org/analysis/diversityIndexMenagerie.htm#Shannon and (sorry about the massive link) https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:vkLD6OzQivEJ:www.instruction.greenriver.edu/nlane/spring2008/Week%25202/Shannon%2520Diversity%2520Index.doc+www.instruction.greenriver.edu/nlane/spring2008&hl=en&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEESh7U525d-tX8-jtPofXSJ85LAJEvCfNxgxH59FC7TM9yQQrt8WhZvmVPCWlSUgj42qSABdHf-HlvnTshkjNcub7qB5x8raPC5Uab9qlWFUajMJjyhOhoLXoENDjObaqV47cLoob&sig=AHIEtbT4t5Q41ZiieezJWzNAuWhXTsRq9w
