Question

i had a crazy idea...it's regarding the question i once did about the credibility...what if we, openstudy users, could have an optional test on each subject that could measure our mastery on a certain category of a subject (i.e. good in algebra/calculus/astronomy/etc.) then this will show beside our names so when we answer questions it can add credibility to what we're teaching besides the smartscore. the test could be made by the global mods each one contributing a few question to the test so the test isn't one way or something. just a wild thought :DDD

Infact apart from learning and helping , there should be something that could judge what we benefited from OS at the end of the day.
And had there been a criteria of giving a medal to the asker , I would have surely given a medal to you.

on a completely related topic...i think the moderators have the most credibility in all the users of OpenStudy, thus, as an asker, i see great prestige in being answered by them. i think other askers who understand the greatness of the moderators feel the same way too. Therefore, i think this honor needs to be shown (i.e. a star beside the question or something) it's like a discussion with wolframalpha itself and it is great reference for other askers.

I think you're getting a little too wrapped up in this whole "mods are gods" kind of mentality. They're just people who help out like you and me. The whole test thing just doesn't seem to work for open study since you can always learn something new, cheat off the internet, or simply not know everything. A simple test score is static and doesn't reflect the dynamic nature of learning like the smart score can.

abt the mods are gods...no i do not think that...but the global mods were chosen by specialists so they are really good with what they say so they have the most credibility..we can almost be sure that what they teach is correct so it is worth marking or something so people looking for references can use those rather than some other guys messing up the tutoring bc of lack of mastery (not pointing fingers though)

test score though...i think you are right...but it really isnt that easy to cheat on things like algebra because it requires manipulation which cannot be googled...other stuffs as well..that is why most people come here for assignments (let's face it) because they cannot google their answers right?

In regard to the moderators being chosen - we don't choose mods based on their correctness. They do tend to be the ones who give the best answers, but we look for a level head and a good attitude above simple correctness. We can be wrong as well. ;)

I find myself agreeing with @Kainui personally. I think there are a lot of systems out there that do a job of measuring your capability with a test. We're trying to do something drastically different, and to that end SmartScore should, at some level, be an indication about how reliable the answers are because medals play a huge role in the SmartScore calculation and - presumably - the asker and others aren't going to go around giving Best Answer medals for wrong answers.
