Using complete sentences, explain how to completely factor 2x^2 - 8x - 42.

Can some one please help me,, I am really sick and unable to think straight.

copy and paste: The first step would be to factor out the gcf of 2 giving you 2(x^2-4x-21). The next step would be to look at the last integer of -21 and see what two factors of -21 multiply to give you -21 and add to give the middle number -4. the answer being -7 and +3 giving you a final answer of 2[(x-7)(x+3)]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First step : take 2 common to make it easier :) it will be 2(x^2-4x-21) and then start to facotrize : 2(x-7)(x+3)
