d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b shud be the correct one

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

To determine which of these graphs was the right one, take a point on the line on one of the graphs and plug into the equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

check the discriminant, its coming to be greater than zero, that means there are two real and distinct value of x for which f(x)=0

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

For instance on graph A, a point on the line is (2,1), plug it into the equation, if x=2, the equation gives me y=31, so A isn't correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now to see the number of positive and negative roots, use descartes's rule of signs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

using that rule will give u 2 negative roots, therefore b shud be the correct one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do u want me to explain descartes' rule of signs?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no thank you ^.^ thanks alot really!!!
