Mathematics 8 Online
OpenStudy (anonymous):

Give an example of a relation that is NOT a function and explain why it is not a function.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ordered pairs or equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if it is just ordered pairs, pick some where the first numbers repeat

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like say \(\{(1,2),(1,3),(2,2),(2,3)\}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you need an equation, start with something with \(y^2\) like \(y^2=x+1\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y² = x --> y = ±√x Because there are *two* square roots for any positive number (positive and negative) this will not be a function.
