Power most definitely corrupts....because of the basis for corruption, which is selfishness...once one acquires a sliver of power, the motif carries us to understand that one cannot settle for that sliver and MUST acquire MORE power.

Power corrupts, and drives one to strive for absolute power, which corrupts absolutely.

As you hear from the old movies and games about "in the right hands". Thing is Humans people when they get power corrupt themselves and misuse the power in itself it isnt the power but the people, but as we know with power people get corrupt we see power as the source of it. Azcanaan is right, and so is Dyiliq, everyone has their own view/opinion on things.

Asking a question like this is like asking, Did the chicken come first or the egg?, as both cannot exist without the other
