When two parallel lines are intersected by a straight line, then 1=5, 2=6, 3=7, 4=8, 4=6. With that in mind, a straight line adds up to 180 degrees. 4 and 5 are same side interiors, and since 4=6 and 6+5= 180 degrees, then 4+5=180 degrees.
