On a number line, the distance from zero to -8 is 8 units. Which equation demonstrates this concept?

OpenStudy (matt6288):

|-8| = 8 ?

OpenStudy (kainui):

|0-8|=U

OpenStudy (chrisplusian):

what are the options? I believe you are dealing with absolute values and the answer would be\[\left| -8 \right|=8\]

OpenStudy (kainui):

Basically you got it right.

OpenStudy (matt6288):

lol thats what i think.. theses r the options A. 8^2 = 64 B. |-8| = 8 C. |-8| = -8 D. 0 + 8 = 8

OpenStudy (chrisplusian):

just remember that an absolute value can be thougth of as the distance you move on a number line. So even if it is in the negative direction you still move 8 places

OpenStudy (matt6288):

thx i got the answer lol
