How do we know that man is the only creature with self consciousness and self awareness? We haven't been inside an animal's brain, or lived an animal's life to wisely come to that conclusion....

The much respected "Molecular Cell Biology" by Lodish et. al. starts with the statement of how our increasing appreciation of the biologic similarities between human and other animal brains will change how we perceive their thoughts and emotions. And less recently, Leonardo Di Vinci wrote, "We will one day look on the murder of animals as we currently see the murder of a man."

The short answer is, it is extremely unlikely that humans are the only animals who are sentient and self aware.

It also depends on ancestors from we have originated.... Conditions and requirements for our survival are the main reasons due to which our cranial capacity increase and now we are the most intelligent and aware organism on Earth.
