take the log of both sides... either base 10 or base e \[\ln(7.7^{3x+4}) = \ln(10.2)\] using log laws for powers \[(4x + 3)\times \ln(7.7) = \ln(10.2)\] divide both sides by ln(7.7) \[4x + 3 = \frac{\ln(10.2)}{\ln(7.7)}\] now solve for x in the normal manner
