can a person live without a brain? why or why not.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Simple NO..... brain control everything in our body - respiration, movement, digestion, these are very complex and vital activities.... but even the simple one like breathing hearing are controlled by brain so if u have no brain, not a single process will take place and as a result u will not be able to live....

I agree with viendra. The brain not only controls our thinking but also all the vital involuntary functions like respiration, digestion, heart beat etc. The functions are controlled by the medulla oblongata part of the brain. The cerebellum controls the coordination of the muscles, so imagine how a person would be without a brain ... without the cerebrum you would become dumb, without cerebellum, you wouldn't be able to move and without the medulla, you would instantly die.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Anencephalic babies are born without a large portion of the brain (the entire prosencephalon, I think). They are usually stillborn, but some live for a couple of hours, and there've been a few cases where the baby died at age two.

Do any of you have a reference source in which you got your answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just remembered reading about it in the news and checked Wikipedia to make sure I wasn't imagining things.
