Write a proportion for the following problem. Eric is making a scale drawing of the ground floor of his house. If the scale is 2 inches = 5 feet, what number of inches will he use for a length of 55 feet?

Parth (parthkohli):

Actually, a more proper way to do that is to convert 5 feet into inches-> 60 inches. Now convert 55 into inches-> 660. Now, the units are same. \[\LARGE 2:60::x:660 \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2/5 = 55/x 2/55 = x/5 2/5 = x/55

Which would it be ? :( Like A ?

Parth (parthkohli):

Let me solve it. \[\LARGE {2 \over 60} = {x \over 660}\] \[\LARGE {2(660)} = 60x \] \[\LARGE {1320} = 60x \] \[\LARGE x = {1320 \over 60} \] \[\LARGE x = 22 \] \[\LARGE \text{Answer is 22 inches.} \]
