What Type of government is ruled by a king or queen?

OpenStudy (april115):

that would be a monarchy. but that was along time ago. theirs no gov ruled by a king/queen. we only have presidents. i think the only countries are england is ruled by a queen and the prince and princess. and if im not mistaken Genovia is ruled by a queen. hope that helps. =]

OpenStudy (april115):

a monarchy was when king tut and all those others were their etc.

Monarchy is spot on, but the term covers both kings, queens, pharoahs, etc.. There are still a tiny handful of countries today where kings and queens still have executive powers (usually under a constitutional monarchy). However, other cases are like that of the UK. The UK has a queen, but she doesn't wield any real power in government and instead acts as a representative. The same with Japan. It has an emperor, but it's a largely symbolic role.

I would just like to point out that the Queen is also involved with other countries in the common wealth which include New Zealand and Australia

There are quite a few constitutional monarchies where a king or queen is the head of state but not the chief executive. There are only a few unfettered monarchies like Saudi Arabia.
