(-9a+4b-c)-(-2b+4c-7d) subtract I tried FOIL but I cant figure this out

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

remove the brackets care with the 2nd set of brackets as its -1*-2b = 2b etc -9a + 4b - c + 2b - 4c + 7d collect the like terms (same letter) -9a (4 +2)b +(-1-4)c + 7d simplify for your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got this far, but I am unsure because of all the letter (abcd) I am not sure how to incorparate that many in a simplified answer

OpenStudy (espex):

The answer that campbell_st provided, short of combining the terms inside the brackets, is the simplified form. -9a (4 +2)b +(-1-4)c + 7d

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

you can only add or subtract like terms.... they have the same letter(s) and powers... you cannot add -9a and 7d... different letters

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-9a(6)b+(-5)c+7d ???

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

-9a + 6b-5c + 7d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok just with out brackets

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

thats it
