After receiving a discount of 12.5% on its bulk printer paper order, johns office supply pays $3200. What was the price after the discount? Solve by stating the equation you woulod use and then solve rounding to the nearest dollar.
to reduce a number by 12.5 percent you have a choice. a) find 12.5% of that number, and then subtract from the original number or b) multiply the original number by \(1-.125=.875\)
for method a) you would write \(3200-3200\times .125\) and then compute for method b) you would write \(3200\times .875\)
question is worded funny, because there are too many 'afters"
so take and suctract 400 from the 3200
yes there is too many afters...lol
if the question is After receiving a discount of 12.5% on its bulk printer paper order, johns office supply pays $3200. What was the price BEFORE the discount? the answer is not the same at all
really it makes no sense the way it is worded. it seems like they pay $3200 after the discount, but then it asks for the price after the discount. did you copy this verbatim? where did it come from?
I wrote it the way it was on my page
if it means the original price was $3200 then yes you are right. take of $400 get $2800
ok then since it says "What was the price after the discount" we will go with that. too bad it is so poorly written as to be confusing
what does it mean when it says solve the problem by stating the equation you would use
if your job is to write it in english you have a choice. easiest to say is probably method one a) find 12.5 % of 3200 by multiplying 3200 by .125. then subtract that number from 3200
oh I got it thank you
