What is the difference between sketching and constructing geometric figures? Give a real-world example of each

OpenStudy (amistre64):

sketching tends to be freehand to get an idea of it constructing invloves tools and precision i believe

OpenStudy (amistre64):

napkin skecths as opposed to blueprints is a good real world example i think

OpenStudy (amistre64):

napkin doodlings .... forgot how to spell sketch :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The idealized geometric construction allows only ruler and compass http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruler_and_compasses Whereas sketching is as Amistre said, freehand and allows for point creation by reference to formulas or otherwise.

are acute angles congruent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

DO YOU THINK: Argument A: There is a need for students to understand and be able to construct geometric figures using a compass and straightedge. Argument B: There is no need for students to use a compass and straightedge, and allgeometric constructions should be done using a drawing program.
