The surface area of a rectangular prism is 72 in.² and its lateral area is 30 in.² The area of a base of the prism is _____ in.².

OpenStudy (anonymous):

SA = 2 pi r^2 + 2pi r * h , solve for pi r^2

OpenStudy (zepp):

Since the surface area is 72 inch ^2 and the lateral area is 30 in ^2, and the surface area = lateral area + base area Can you find the solution all by yourself? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@kalche, ???

OpenStudy (zepp):

It's not a cylinder, kalche.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh my bad

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am curious if the statement, 'area of a base' means just the bottom?

OpenStudy (zepp):

Yeah, what you will find by substracting the lateral area off the surface area would be the area of the baseS, you need 1 base, so you have to divide the answer by 2.
