my problem is to simplify or expand: (d+h) sq +(d-h) sq

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(d+h)^{2}+(d-h)^{2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I keep getting 2d^{2} or just d squared....what am I doing wong

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

ok, first show me what you get when you expand \((d+h)^2\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[d ^{2}+h ^{2}\]

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

that is not correct.\[(d+h)^2=d^2+2dh+h^2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you get that?

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

you probably made the same mistake in \((d-h)^2\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok I know now I forgot I have to add the whole problem too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

\[(d+h)^2=(d+h)(d+h)=d(d+h)+h(d+h)=d^2+dh+dh+h^2\]\[\qquad=d^2+2dh+h^2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you I keep forgetting to add thw whole problem in the sq

OpenStudy (asnaseer):
