A balanced scale has a bag and 7 blocks on the left tray and 16 blocks on the right tray. If you remove 7 blocks from both trays to keep the scale balanced, how many blocks are in the bag? 9 16 23 7

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

9, if you take 7 away from the side with the bag you are just left with the bag, and if you take 7 away from 16 you have 9, so the bag must have 9 if the weight of the bag is negligable

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its 9

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

yes

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

if the bag has no weight

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

the bag alone has no weight

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is 9 or 16

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

9

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

7+x = 16 if we take away 7 from both sides we have x = 9
