OpenStudy (mphetang):

what is the significance of starch grains in plant cells?/please help....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hey there, Well - primarily, as their name suggests, starch grains are locations of starch storage! Starch, in turn, is an energy and carb source for the plant. Interestingly, evidence has also been found for a role for starch grains in gravitropism. In short, the starch grains act as "weights" to tell the plant which way the roots should grow. You should be able to find a decent amount of papers published on the subject...here's a start: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14631938
