solve the proportion x/(x-4) = 4/(x-4) What is the value of x? A. x = 2 B. x = −2 and x = 1 C. x = −1 and x = 4 D. x = 4 <<< This is My answer choice! is that right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If x =4, you would be dividing by zero. That can't be. :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, but since there is no solution since you would get x= 4 right? but 4 is not in the domain since you are not allowed to divide by zero.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the denominators are equal, and the system is equal, so that means the numerators are equal. Since the numerator on the right is 4, the numerator on the left is 4. Right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That makes sense. Still, I think that you have to put no solution. There isn't that option, it seems, tho. They never intercept: http://www4c.wolframalpha.com/Calculate/MSP/MSP6981a180f3if090hgig00000g86e8ddhh9g7193?MSPStoreType=image/gif&s=44&w=351&h=187&cdf=Coordinates&cdf=Tooltips

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but it not one of the option choices, should I just go with my answer and see what happens?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Guess so. It seems the most logical one, excluding DNE. Pretty bad question, huh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, iv'e been getting a lot of questions like these, I guess that's the downside of home schooling, some times you can get answer that don't even relate to your question...lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, :-). Anyway, good luck with it, and congrats, you solved it correctly. Just a bad question...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks :)
