If the triangles are similar, which ratio shows the relationship of the area of the larger triangle to the area of the smaller triangle? Answer 9:1 5:8 4:1 6:1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

area of larger triangle = 1/2 (24)(15) = 12 x 15 area of smaller triangle = 1/2 (8)(5) = 4 x 5 solve those two areas then find the ratio

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry my browser is going crazy. Can you further explain?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

the area of a triangle is \(\large \frac{bh}{2}\) you know that right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

so that's how we got the area of the large triangle and the small triangle....the black line was the base (15 and 5) then the red ones were the height (24 and 8). The question is the ratio of the larger triangle to the smaller triangle so the ratio is lage triangle : small trianle -> \(\frac{\text{large triangle}}{\text{small triangle}}\) agree?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Eh sorry if im alittle dumb, but i still cant get the answer to match the choices above

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

\(\LARGE \frac{12 \times 15}{4 \times 5}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is 9:1?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

yup sorry late reply :)

np thanks for the help
