hypothetical question...how long do the admins think before the pacman chat, spammy messaging, etc. get fixed?
Is that a hypothetical question?
So I'm assuming pacman chat is a nice way of putting that it's laggy? Do you mean laggy in regard to posting chats or scrolling/reading? In regard to spammy messaging, let me paint the status: There was a bug where messages appeared to be sending, but didn't do anything. This led way to a lot of people posting their message, seeing it hang, and then reposting the same message. We issued a fix for this a week or so ago and so far it seems fairly successful. Now the issue is this: Many people are still accustomed to the old issue and with the site being a little laggy sometimes, we get people who think their post didn't go through, and try again. This *will* lead to duplicate messages because they essentially send the message multiple times. This is all my theory of course, but there's no way that a message should be received multiple times (even after refresh) if it was only sent once. Now then, in regard to lag: yes the site was a bit slow today and a bit yesterday. BUT, we're still pretty proud of ourselves. If you think of the site's performance getting worse linearly with time, we used to be able to only go about 2 days before it became unusable. Today (just now to be exact) was our *tenth* day without a "kick." So while yes, it was getting a bit shaky today, rest assured that, by our metrics, the site has been consistently smoother. Also, it is a rarity for us to go 10 days without a release or kick in some fashion so normally, if we can get 10 days performance, we'll never reach the "tipping point." Hope that cleared some things up. tl;dr: Yes the site is still a little slow, but it's so much better and more consistent than a month ago.
pacman chat -> chat eating the messages lol and 2 days of down?? o.O wow never experienced that...
@SmoothMath i wasnt sure if others were experiencing it so i placed it under a hypothetical question
Not two days of downtime, but two days of uptime before the server went down.
Ah, makes sense, lgb.
oh..well that i saw.. and i think the 10 days ago was the smarrtscore opening?
Not exactly. But very close. We actually were and are planning to release some new stuff tomorrow morning (ie. ~12 hours from now) so we almost made it 10 days. Things should be stable though for now. If they are not stable right after a restart (right now) then we should be concerned.
oh okay. that's good to know..the release tomorrow...is it the "awesomesauce" farm refers to?
Heh, this one will be pretty tame feature-wise, but that's because we've been hard at work on some awesomeapplesauce to be released "real soon like." But since it has been a hot minute since our last release, there are a bunch of small tweaks in the pipe. But I don't wanna spoil any of tomorrow's fun :X
okay then :DDD im sure it shall be worth the wait...you have a lot riding on your shoulders since the smartscore was a success and a hit (for the majority of people) and you need to keep the next ones as good...but no pressure :P hahaha
Also, we've got some thoughts on how to take care of “pacman chat”. It's usually a result of the server being overloaded enough that your browser gives up trying to post the chat. We want to tweak that so it doesn't give up as easily/at all.
