n triangle DEF, side DE is congruent to side EF. If the length of side DE is 26 cm, which of the following is the range that represents a possible length for DF in this triangle? MY CHOICE is 0cm< DF< 52cm ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct.

does it make a difference this cus theres an option just like this but i dont understand . its the same but with line under the (<)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That means less than or equal to. That option won't make sense because: Any side of a triangle cannot be equal to or less than the difference of the other two sides. AND Any side of a triangle cannot be equal to or greater than the sum of the other two sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In this case, 0 is not even a possible value of a side. So, it can never be that "less than or equal" option.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hm then il just go with my first option thank u very much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is the right one.

Notice that the 3rd side can stretch as far as the sum of the two other sides (not be equal or greater).
