How do you solve this:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Y varies inversely with x: if x=2 and y = 25 what is x when y is 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So basically, The phrase “ y varies inversely as x” or “ y is inversely proportional to x” means that as x gets bigger, y gets smaller, or vice versa. To solve this: \[y _{_{1}}x _{_{1}}=y _{2}x _{2}\] So we have x1=2 and y1=25 We have y2=5 but need to find x2. y1x1=y2x2 (2)(25)=(5)x 50=5x divide by 5 25=x
