For this problem you have to identify two equations for both functions of time. So the first equation you need to make is a distance one Y=5x+12.5 and that equation gives you distance with x being time 12.5 came from the fact the runner has ran 12.5miles in 1 and half hours then you find the equation for the cyclist and you get y=17.5x you set these equations equal to each other and you solve for 17.5x=5x+12.5, x=1 hour.
